A single Brazil nut per day is sufficient to meet the recommended daily allowance for selenium, a mineral that has attracted attention for its key role in metabolism and its antioxidant properties.  Native to South America, Brazil nuts are the edible seeds of the Brazil tree, a tree that can grow up to 45 meters high and with trunks almost 2 meters wide. Categorized vulnerable by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), Brazil trees that have been living for more than 500 years are still producing nuts today. The nut’s meat is white and has delicious hints of coconut, macadamia, and almond and is often used as a substitute for them. It also has a high fat content, making it ideal ingredient in shampoos, soaps and other skin care products. Add them to yoghurt, trail mixes, or your baked goodies.
